It meets emission standards, but Mazda doesn't think it quite has "the right balance between fuel economy and Mazda-appropriate driving performance".
So not enough zoom?
I think they just want to wait until it's warmer out, to avoid any cold weather problems. Because diesel.

More torque!

From what I heard from 'straya, the Mazda diesel has had some serious mechanical problems. I think they're taking time off to work on the reliability issues now that it meets emissions requirements.

Maybe I'm a loon, but isn't the whole point of the Skyactiv branding to emphasize a particular kind of compression management and stratified charge running, both of which are utterly meaningless for a diesel in the manner employed on a gas?
I mean, maybe compression controls are present, but high efficiency gas =/= high efficiency diesel. If they're nuking compression under reduced load to reduce pumping losses and reduce NOx, that'd IIRC actually be almost the exact opposite of a Skyactiv gas in some respects (conditional compression increase). Maybe the execution is similar, just more typically on? I don't know.

Interesting, do you know which components ?

Most of the noise is about the particulate filter but over in the FP article on the subject it looks like they have other troubles as well.

Intersting, thanks!
